Why is my film scanner screen flashing or flickering?

There are a several causes for a flashing or flickering screen.

The backlight turns off/the power adapter is not providing enough power:

  • Most of our film scanners require a power adapter or USB port that provides 5V 1A (1000mA) of power.
  • This information can be found on a sticker on the power adapter.
  • If you're powering the scanner from a computer USB port, you may need to check the settings of the PC to confirm the power output of the port.
  • Using an incorrect adapter may cause the screen or light to flicker, flash, or a failure to scan. It is possible the scanner may not turn on at all.

The screen flashes orange, or cycles from negative to positive:

  • If this doesn't happen with all of your slides or negatives, it may be that the image is too bright or too dark.
  • Try moving the slide or negative until the flashing stops. You can also adjust the brightness or darkness on the scanner.
  • The film scanner makes adjustments to the colors and lighting based on the colour and brightness of the picture.
  • A negative of a dark picture may have too much white which can cause the scanner to think there is no picture in the film adapter.
