How do I clean my film for scanning?
There are several ways you can clean your film, but all require great care not to damage them.
- Handle your film and negatives with lint free gloves.
- Compressed air
- Ensure your negatives or slides are on a clean surface and are secured.
- Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from your negatives.
- Lightly dab the affected areas with a lint free cloth or cotton swab with a small amount of 98% Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Do not use lower concentrations of alcohol than 98%, too much water can distort the image.
- Do not leave the alcohol on the film for extended periods of time as it may damage it further.
- Keep them in a clean, dry area to finish drying.
- After they have dried, wipe them off with a clean lint-free cloth to remove any oils or debris that loosened during cleaning.
