My records play too fast or slow, how do I adjust the speed of my turntable?

In this video, we outline two methods that can be used to adjust the speed of your turntable if you find it rotates too fast or too slow.

These steps are for RT80 and RT81. Reference Series tables such as RT82-RT85, use a servo motor that cannot be adjusted as it adjusts speed on its own.

You will need the following:

Method 1:
1/16" mini flathead screwdriver
Smartphone with RPM calculator app

Method 2:
1/16" mini flathead screwdriver
Halogen lamp
Printed Strobe Discs: North America: 60Hz UK: 50Hz

You will need a 1/16-inch mini flat-tip screwdriver and a smartphone with the RPM testing app.
  1. Download an RPM testing app on your smartphone, or print the strobe disc provided above.
  2. Remove the dust cover and set the auto-stop switch to “off”.
  3. Elevate the turntable so you can access the speed adjustment holes on the bottom of the plinth.
  4. If using the smartphone app, place something over the turntable's spindle, such as the cap from an aerosol spray can, and put the phone on top. This will center the smartphone on the platter for the most accurate reading.
  5. Set the speed adjustment knob to the speed you are adjusting and check the strobe disc or app to determine which adjustments you need to make.
  6. Insert the screwdriver into the adjustment hole, feeling for the plastic adjustment knob.
  7. Turn the screwdriver counter-clockwise to decrease speed, or clockwise to increase it. The adjustments are extremely sensitive and the knobs can be fragile, making slow, small adjustments.
