How To Set Up Fluance Ai81 Powered Floorstanding Tower Speakers (with troubleshooting tips)
After removing the speakers and accessories from the packaging, you'll have an active speaker, a passive speaker, power cable, speaker wire, remote control and battery. All accessories can be found in the foam and cap located at the foot of the active speaker box. It's the box that can be easily identified with the Fluance Accessory" sticker.
When removing the accessories, the first thing you can do is take the coin battery and place it in the remote control. The positive side will be facing up.
As always, we recommend keeping your original packaging in the event that you need to move the speakers to another location in the future.
To connect the speaker wire, unthread the binding posts on the back of each speaker until the hole in the post is exposed. Insert the wire into the hole in the post and tighten the binding post cap. The binding post should make contact with the conductive part of the speaker wire, not the part with the insulation jacket. If the wire needs to be more exposed, the jacket on the wire can be stripped further. It is important to be sure that the wires are connected to the matching binding post on each speaker. So red to red, black to black. Once the speakers are connected, plug the power cable into the back panel of the active speaker and the other side into a wall outlet. Then press the power switch to turn it on. The speaker will start up in standby mode.
To control the volume and audio source, you can use the control knob. It can be found on the back of the active speaker at the top. Or you can use the remote control. Turn the knob to adjust volume up and down and then press it in to switch audio sources. The indicator LED on the front of the active speaker will show which audio input is active.
If you find that your Ai81's don't sound like you expected, check the following.
Make sure that you have adjusted the bass and treble to your liking using the remote control.
Make sure your audio source EQ is set to "Normal" or "Flat."
Make sure your music app does not have volume normalization enabled. This adjusts the volume of all music to be at the same level and may cause distortion or quiet playback.
Make sure that the music source is high quality. Streaming apps can have different quality settings based on if you're streaming or if you've downloaded the music.
If you are using the optical connection, be sure to set the audio output settings on your TV to PCM or Stereo. Dolby DTS and other surround options are not supported. Also check your TV's settings and make sure that external speakers are enabled.
The Ai81 Powered Floorstanding Speakers also include a Sub Out connection for use with any powered subwoofer such as the Fluance DB10 and DB12. Simply plug the subwoofer into the Sub Out connection and any frequency under 80 hertz will go through the subwoofer.
