Why are my powered speakers buzzing or hissing?
If you are hearing sound while the speakers are not playing audio, it is normal to hear some white noise or a low hiss with an active speaker as the inputs are always active and drivers are always powered while in an ON state. This sound will not be audible through your music or movie audio.
If your Fluance Ai40, Ai60, Ai41, Ai61, Ai81, Ri71, or Ri91 powered speakers emit a high-frequency buzzing or a low-frequency hum, you can use these steps to resolve it:
- Connect the power adapter to a different outlet, if possible in a different room.
- Check the speaker wire connections on the left and right speakers, and confirm the same side of the wire is connected to the matching binding post (red post to red post, black post to black post)
- Test using different RCA or AUX cables.
- If using a turntable, ensure the ground cable is connected to the ground terminal on the turntable and the ground terminal on the preamp. If you don't use an external preamp, the turntable can be grounded to one of the screws on the back panel of the speakers.
