How can I prevent vibrations from affecting my turntable?
If you find yourself experiencing feedback, or people walking past your turntable affecting the sound, you may need to take additional steps to isolate the turntable from vibrations. The best solution is typically moving the turntable or speakers to another surface but that may not always be an option. For these situations, we recommend using an isolation base such as our IB40 Turntable Isolation Base.
- Vibrations can physically travel through rigid materials such as ceramic or hardwood floors, and affect your audio signal.
- It is recommended to use anti-vibration furniture pads to decrease the transmission of physical vibrations when installed in a room with hard floors.
- Speakers create sound waves that travel through the air and can cause unwanted acoustical effects. Acoustic foam can be placed on the wall opposite the speakers to dampen sound reflections.
- Some turntables have a removable dust cover. A dust cover can resonate with sound waves, which can cause audio distortion. A best practice is to remove the dust cover during playback.
