Why won't my new turntable spin or play a record?

1. Ensure the unit is connected to a working power outlet.
2. Set the unit to the PHONO option.
3. Ensure the transit screw has been turned clockwise ¼ turn; this will allow the turntable to float and turn freely. 
4. Check that the tonearm lock lever is released
5. Move the tonearm above the record and this will trigger the turntable to spin.
6. Try to reset the unit: turn the power off and unplug the power cord from the wall. Please wait for 1-2 minutes then plug the power back into the power source and turn the power back on the turntable.
7. If the above steps fail, unplug the record player from power and remove the turntable assembly, disconnect the wire connecting it to the player, and reconnect it. The steps for this can be found in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGOXIu7Gp40
