EB10/EB20/EB30: Do I need an amplifier for Electrohome speakers?

Powered bookshelf speakers such as the EB30 McKinley have their own amplifier built-in and don't need an external amplifier or A/V receiver. This also means they cannot be connected to one for use in a surround sound system.
