Can I charge my smartphone with the USB port?

The USB port is for playback of MP3s from USB thumb drives or recording depending on the device. The USB port will not charge a device, nor allow an MP3 player to play music. If you would like to play audio from an iPod, iPhone, or Android device please use the Line/AUX input on the unit.
